Selected photos from various performances. I take the photos and goof around with them a little to try and make something "different". Brilliant colors from a bright sunny fall day. The AHS band gave their usual outstanding performance. A few stand tunes and the half time performance. The halftime performance includes the word "Sandies" on the field. It was a little hard to photograph due to the "width" of the formation. Each year, I get one night to shoot black and white. Since I originally was not planning to go to Lubbock, it drew the black and white night. These shots are with long lenses in low light, so they look like "throwback" photos to… The AHS Golden Sandie Marching Band performing at the Midland Lee game. The show includes the tribute to the outgoing seniors at halftime.
A video of the senior tribute at the halftime show and a video of the "Senior A" formed by the outgoing seniors. The AHS band performs at the Odessa High game. A COLD RAINY MISERABLE night, but everyone had fun and the band played on! Wet, cold, drippy, but always fun! AHS participated in a "warm-up" contest in Midland, after spending the night in San Angelo. Photos from the Tall City Marching Contest in Midland. The band played at the game in San Angelo the night before (and stayed in San Angelo). Stand tunes and the halftime performance at the San Angelo game (not bad for performing after a 6 hour drive). After a long drive from Amarillo to San Angelo, the band performed well! AHS played Odessa Permian, the team from Friday Night Lights. I am sure Odessa Permian is having a "down year", but beating them was fun. Of course, the AHS band has always been better! Oh yeah, it was also homecoming. Each year, the AHS band participates in the homecoming parade which circles the neighborhood around Amarillo High School. Cross town rivals, the Amarillo versus Tascosa game is always exciting. Our band won, our football team didn't. At the Coronado game, we presented Vivian as the band queen. She later won the Homecoming Queen. Way to go Vivian. I only made it to one Pep Rally this year (darn job keeps getting in the way), but it was certainly fun. An annual fund raiser for the band is the "March-A-Thon" around the neighborhood. Another rivalry for Amarillo High is the Randall High School. The game was played at Kimbrough Stadium, the West Texas A&M University field. The meet the players event is where the football team is introduced. The band plays an intro for the event. The Ice Cream Social is a "meet and greet" to kick off the band season and get the parent's going. I hit a couple of the summer marching sessions for the band. The photos were fun, mornings and afternoons always make better photos than the normal night pictures I get to shoot of the band. This day was "gangsta" day. Occasionally, the band has a dance. I took photos at one. One practice day was "geek day". Hannah dressed as the chemistry nerd (of course), and took her Albert Einstein action figure. I love you Hannah. This day at marching practice was "retro day" with lots of kids dressed in 50's and 60's outfits (or maybe 70's and 80's...I sure am getting old). The freshman cookout helps get the freshmen and parents oriented with the band and Band Parent's Association. These collages are from this year and last year. They are fun to make and make neat scrapbook pages.
